I’ve had my TREG unit long enough now that I feel like I can speak pretty well about long term impressions.
This thing is small and portable. We all know that, and I think for very nearly everyone that has ordered one, the size is a factor that leads to our interest in it.
There is a saying: “the only camera that matters is the one you have with you”. I think this is equally true of keyboards - I don’t care HOW GREAT a keyboard might seem at home if I need to type and I don’t have it with me.
So right on the face of it, the TextBlade overcomes so many other keyboards because I have it with me ALL THE TIME and it is so tiny (and the battery life is so great) that this is essentially for free - zero effort or sacrifice to be able to have this keyboard with me all the time.
With cameras though, this analogy about the importance of the camera you have “with you” is always accompanied by the disclaimer that the most portable cameras have sacrifices associated with them.
With the TextBlade, there truly is no need for a disclaimer.
To put this into context, I shoot photos professionally, doing wedding photography. While cell phone cameras are ridiculously good now compared to just three years ago, even the Pixel 2 and iPhone XS fail to come close to my DSLR cameras and expensive lenses. So for me, I get all kinds of great shots with my iPhone that I wouldn’t get otherwise, but EVERY SINGLE TIME, if there was a way I could press a button and turn my iPhone into a DSLR with the best lens for the photo I’m taking, that would always be my preference.
With the TextBlade, it is the opposite. This super portable keyboard is now my PREFERENCE. So my laptops that have a built in keyboard end up being the compromise. The TextBlade is my preference AND it is portable. AND I can use it with every device I own.
The versatility of this device coupled with portability, the ability to remap the keys as you wish, this is simply best of breed.
I love this thing.
I will tell you right now - any of you with only one TextBlade in order right now, the very first thing you’ll do once you get it is to order more.
I’m to the point that I think four will be my bare minimum once we hit general release.
